Conditions We Address
Not One Condition —
A Spectrum of
Mind & Nerve Concerns
Stress, anxiety, and neurological conditions share a common thread in Ayurveda: an aggravated Vata and a disturbed Manas. At Pranavam Ayurveda, we see patients across this full spectrum — each requiring a distinct, physician-designed approach based on the condition's nature, symptom pattern, and individual constitution.
Chronic Stress & Burnout
Persistent mental and physical exhaustion arising from prolonged overactivation of the body's stress response. In Ayurveda, this is understood as a depletion of Ojas — the vital essence — accompanied by aggravated Vata in the nervous system.
Ojas KshayaAnxiety & Sleep Disorders
Generalised anxiety, panic, restlessness, and chronic insomnia linked to a disturbed mind and an aggravated Vata dosha. Classically described as Chittodvega and Anidra — conditions of mental unrest and the loss of restful sleep.
Chittodvega · AnidraMigraine & Neurological Concerns
Recurrent headaches, migraine, and neurological symptoms including numbness, tingling, and cognitive fatigue. Ayurveda classifies these under Shirashoola and Vata Vyadhi — conditions of the head and nervous system driven by imbalanced Vata and Pitta.

Classical Treatments,
Individually Prescribed
No two minds are identical. The therapies below are selected and combined by our physicians based on your specific condition, symptoms, and constitution — never as a fixed package.
Continuous Oil Stream Therapy
Shirodhara
A steady, unbroken stream of warm medicated oil is poured over the forehead in a gentle, rhythmic flow. Among the most revered therapies in Kerala Ayurveda, Shirodhara is traditionally used to calm the mind, balance Vata in the nervous system, and address conditions of mental unrest, anxiety, insomnia, and stress-related disorders.
Classical Indication
Chittodvega, Anidra, Shirashoola, chronic stress, anxiety, migraine, and Vata-dominant neurological conditions as classically described.
Physician Note
Oil formulation, stream duration, and session frequency are determined individually following mental and physical assessment by the physician.
Full-Body Oil Massage
Abhyanga
A systematic full-body massage with warm medicated oils, performed by trained therapists in synchronised rhythmic strokes. Abhyanga nourishes the nervous system through the skin, pacifies aggravated Vata, improves circulation, and supports the body's capacity for deep rest — foundational to the management of stress and neurological fatigue.
Classical Indication
Vata pacification, nervous system support, chronic stress, fatigue, musculoskeletal stiffness, and conditions of depleted Ojas as classically described.
Physician Note
Oil selection, stroke pattern, and pressure are tailored to each patient's dosha predominance and presenting symptoms.
Nasal Instillation Therapy
Nasya
Medicated oils or preparations are administered through the nasal passages — the classical gateway to the head region. Nasya is particularly relevant for conditions affecting the head, sinuses, and neurological function. In the management of migraine, headache, and stress-related cognitive symptoms, it is a primary therapeutic intervention.
Classical Indication
Shirashoola, migraine, sinus-related headache, cognitive fatigue, and conditions of the head and upper channels as classically described.
Physician Note
Type of Nasya preparation, dosage, and suitability are determined individually by the physician before commencement.
Scalp Oil Retention Therapy
Shiro Basti
Warm medicated oil is retained over the scalp within a specially fitted cap for a prescribed duration. Shiro Basti delivers sustained nourishment directly to the head and nervous system, and is traditionally used for conditions of deep-seated nervous exhaustion, severe insomnia, anxiety, and neurological disorders affecting the head.
Classical Indication
Severe Vata disorders of the head, intractable insomnia, deep nervous exhaustion, and complex neurological presentations as classically described.
Physician Note
Shiro Basti is prescribed for specific indications only. Oil formulation and session duration are individually determined after physician assessment.
Panchakarma Therapy
Basti
Considered Ayurveda's most powerful Vata-pacifying Panchakarma, Basti involves the administration of medicated preparations that act systemically on the nervous system and deeper tissues. For neurological and stress-related conditions driven by deep Vata imbalance, Basti is often the central intervention in a physician-guided therapeutic programme.
Classical Indication
The foremost Panchakarma for all Vata-dominant conditions, including neurological disorders, chronic anxiety, and degenerative nervous system conditions.
Physician Note
The type of Basti, herbal formulation, and schedule are individually prescribed based on detailed physician assessment.
Medicated Paste Head Pack
Thalapothichil
A specially prepared herbal paste is applied over the scalp and head, covered and retained for a prescribed period. Thalapothichil delivers deep cooling and nourishing properties to the head, and is traditionally used for conditions involving Pitta-aggravated headaches, migraines, scalp-related hair loss, and stress with associated heat in the head region.
Classical Indication
Pitta-dominant headache, burning sensations in the head, migraine with heat aggravation, and stress with scalp involvement as classically described.
Physician Note
Herbal paste composition and retention duration are tailored after individual assessment of dosha predominance and symptom pattern.
Common Questions
Stress, Anxiety &
Neurology — FAQs
Answers to questions we hear most often from patients considering Ayurvedic mind and nervous system care at Pranavam.
Ayurveda sees stress and anxiety as disturbances of the Manas (mind) and an aggravation of Vata dosha — particularly in the nervous system. Treatment aims to restore the balance of Vata, nourish Ojas, and calm the Manas through personalised therapies, herbal medicines, and lifestyle guidance.
Ayurvedic treatment for insomnia may include therapies such as Shirodhara, Abhyanga, and Basti, alongside herbal formulations and dietary guidance — all tailored to the patient's individual constitution and the nature of the sleep disturbance following physician assessment.
Many patients at Pranavam are on existing medications for anxiety, depression, or neurological conditions. Our physicians assess your current medications at the time of consultation and plan Ayurvedic treatment accordingly. Changes to existing prescriptions are a matter for your treating specialist.
Ayurvedic management for migraine and chronic headache may include Nasya, Shirodhara, Thalapothichil, and internal herbal medicines — tailored to the pattern of the headache (Vata or Pitta dominant) and assessed individually by the physician before treatment commences.
We see patients with stress-related neurological symptoms, peripheral neuropathy, cognitive fatigue, post-viral neurological complaints, and conditions classically described as Vata Vyadhi. Suitability for Ayurvedic treatment is assessed individually by the physician for each patient.
Duration varies considerably depending on the nature and chronicity of the condition. Your treating physician will advise on the recommended programme length after your initial consultation and assessment.
Every treatment programme at Pranavam Ayurveda is personalised. No fixed packages — your therapies, medicines, and lifestyle guidance are designed after physician consultation based on your specific condition, constitution, and health history.
